Weather Delays
On rare occasion unpredictable weather can delay the coming and going of the aircraft, which can potentially disrupt other travel plans. We recommend that any transportation or activity is scheduled for the day after departure or late afternoon on departure day just to give yourself some wiggle room in your itinerary.
Additional nights at the lodge due to bad weather are $150 per person. In the case of an overnight delay, all meals and guided activities are still provided.
If your arrival to our lodge is delayed more than a day, we will do everything we can to reschedule your stay to make up the difference if there is availability.
If our booking and cancellation policy is cause for concern, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance.
It is always best to do your own research and get the insurance that's right for you, but this travel insurance comparison chart might help get you started.

2-Night Sample Itinerary Details: (from Talkeetna OR Anchorage)
Day 1 from Talkeetna: With a rental car it is simple to get to the floatplane office and check in for your flight by 9:30 AM.
If you get to Talkeetna by shuttle bus or train we will coordinate your shuttle to the floatplane base. Check-in time will be later if you arrive by train. (links here will help you plan your BUS or TRAIN transfer)
Day 1 from Anchorage: We recommend staying at a hotel like The Lakefront so the shuttle distance to the floatplane base at Lake Hood is extremely short. It is also easy to get a taxi, Uber or Lyft in Anchorage. Check-in times with our partners at Lake Hood can vary, but is usually around 10:00 AM.
Day 1 at the lodge: Once you arrive at the lodge we plan the day in one of two ways. Either an easy going first couple of hours and a relaxed sit down lunch in the lodge followed by an afternoon hike. Or, you get settled in and then pack a lunch so you can go hiking soon after you arrive.
We like to get everyone back to the lodge with plenty of time to get ready for dinner in the main lodge at 6:30 PM.
Day 2: The lodge opens at 8 AM so you can come in for a warm drink and use the WiFi. Breakfast is at 9:00 and after that, we either prepare for a longer day out hiking with your guide and a pack lunch. (Lunch items are set out so everyone can make their own lunch). Or, we leave you alone to explore, hike or kayak on your own. A guide is always available to hike with you during your stay, but we want you to feel comfortable here on your own if you so wish. Dinner is set again in the main lodge for all guests at 6:30 PM.
.Day 3: After breakfast at 9:00 AM the floatplane will arrive to pick you up sometime around 10 AM. It is best to wake early and enjoy your last morning looking for wildlife, one last self-guided walk, or the last chance to hop in a kayak before your flight back to town.

Dinner is set again in the main lodge for all guests at 6:30 PM.
Day 3: We think the reason most people choose to stay 3 nights is to truly relax and get more immersed in the remote, off-grid wilderness vibe. Breakfast at 9 AM, and if you have enjoyed the shorter trail hikes, then hiking on day 3 doesn't have to be any more intense than the previous days. If you have stayed the 3rd night to specifically get off-trail and do some advanced, physically taxing hiking, we will plan hike # 3 accordingly. Day 3 is very flexible so you can choose your adventure.
Day 4: After breakfast at 9:00 AM the floatplane will arrive to pick you up sometime around 10 AM. It is best to wake early and enjoy your last morning looking for wildlife, one last self-guided walk, or the last chance to hop in a kayak before your flight back to town.
