A floatplane landing on the lake and approaches the lodge to pick up guests and fly back to Talkeetna.

- HOW TO GET HERE -

Caribou Lodge is only accessible by small aircraft: Float-plane or helicopter.  Most guests fly in from Talkeetna.

Talkeetna is a 2.5 hour drive north of Anchorage and all air taxi services offer free parking while you visit the lodge. They also offer free shuttle from the Alaska Railroad train depot and the bus stop at the Talkeetna lodge.

You can click these links to find out more information on the train ride from Anchorage to Talkeetna, or the motorcoach shuttle provided by Alaska Tour & Travel.

Our summer rates include your round-trip air taxi charter from Talkeetna or Anchorage.

During the summer season a float-plane is primarily used unless someone requests a helicopter charter.

The helicopter is only needed during early / mid June when ice may still be on the lake.

Use of the helicopter does increase the prices on our Rates Page.

Once you reserve your cabin, we will coordinate your flights and give you all the details and directions. On the day of your arrival to the lodge, the flight company will be expecting you at their office. If you need a shuttle from the train depot, we can coordinate that as well.

- WHAT TO BRING -

Please come prepared to be in the Alaska wilderness. We are miles away from the nearest town or store and we want your stay to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Even in the middle of summer average temperatures can vary between 40 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rain or shine we are hiking, unless our guests want to stay inside.

Remember: There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear.

Summer:

---Good quality waterproof hiking boots with ankle support are highly recommended.

Most hiking around the lodge is not on a trail system,

and at times the tundra can be like walking on a soaked sponge.

---Slip-on shoes for around the lodge

---Multiple layers of clothing, as the weather can change quickly

(polypro long underwear, light wool, fleece, etc)

---Warm socks and gloves

---Outer layer jacket

---Full rain gear (Nothing too crazy, just universal: https://amzn.to/42V2Eh1)

---Gaiters (anything like this that fits: https://amzn.to/3VYoa0s)

---Hat and beanie

---Binoculars
